No matter what industry you are in and what product you are selling, the internet has become the tool to master or at least include into your world domination plans.

In all business expansion, whether you are just getting started or you have a well established business you are going to rely on marketing and advertising at one stage. How well you do will depend on how good you are with more different factors than I care to mention.

Many new business owners tend to throw good money after bad. Wasting the little resources they have in the hope that they will get lucky and hit the big time. This happens very rarely, it is the person that does their research and monitors their spending activities that will be the true winner.

Yes it is true that you can spend too much time analyzing a too little time doing but the same is also true when you reverse this. You can spend too much time doing and not enough time analysing.

When I first got started I took the spatter gun approach. I would aim in the middle of the crowd from a mile a way and hope that I hit something. More often than not I missed and ended up wasting time, effort, money and emotional energy.

All of which I did not have much of to waste.

Social Networking is fast becoming the way of smart marketers. It allows you as a business owner to build relationships quickly with people from all walks of life all over the world with no respect for borders. I love it.

My background before getting involved in Internet Marketing was in the corporate field. Everything was “Belly to Belly, Face to Face” relationships had to be built over coffee, functions and long meetings. It was expensive, time consuming and required you to be on your toes all the time. We started to implement the technology into what we were doing and found that our results started to come easier and quicker. So much so that we started to find it hard to keep up. We implemented a simple email campaign that built a relationship with the clients before we ever spoke. This was back in2001 and now we have done something similar for our clients that is seeing even bigger results again. It is allowing us to build and grow our multi million dollar business from home and make an ever increasing cash flow while having time for ourselves and freedom to do what we want when we want.

That little bit of technology has changed our business forever and it is called an autoresponder. Today I am going to take you through how you can use that same technology to build your business on the back of a Social Networking phenomenon.

So lets get started in understanding Social Networking, but first let me ask you some questions.

So how does all this fit into Social Media Marketing?
Well firstly you need to know and understand that the business you are in is constantly changing and the ways that are becoming open to you continue to grow. The internet has become the most cost effective was to market and any person wanting a business needs to start to build their understanding of technology and how it can help them become successful.
There is a lot of ways to advertise on the internet however they all cost money and sometimes they will cost you a fortune. You can into something like Google Adwords after reading someones article and think that you just have to put up an ad direct them to your site and you will make a fortune, this is far from the truth. If you dont get your keywords right and your ad and your landing page and your offer etc etc etc you could have wasted more than you had planned for. Social Networking is a little more gracious than that. It allows you to put time and effort in without the money. Social Networking Sites are free. They welcome you as an individual to come and build relationships with any person you want to at no charge.

You can’t do this with adwords or any other type of paid media. Does it take time? YES, you have to be patient and be prepared for the long road ahead. As you build the relationships and start to your message out there you will find “Evangelists” people who want others to know about what you are saying and they will go to work on your behalf. As your list of followers and friends grow so do the evangelists, the ones that just can’t stop talking about you and the value that you bring to them and their business. You become the person that is the answer, the guru….This is what you are working on. Becoming the guru.

How serious are you about getting long term profitable results for your business?
Social Networking is not for the short sighted person. It is only for the person who has a long time view. Remember that this type of marketing takes time. Be prepared to take time out each day to build the relationships and bring value to the communities you are involved in.
How serious you are about success in your business will show through by your commitment to the people you interact with. Be prepared to answer their questions and become the mentor they have been looking for. Obviously you better make sure you do know what you are talking about because if you don’t they will spread the word and your name will become mud.
The internet is harsh like this. Information can spread faster then the swine flue so you better be building your knowledge constantly. Subscribe to newsletters, blogs and feeds and start to claw through the information. Find what is relevant and pass that information on.
Remember though, time is the key when it comes to building with Social Media especially if you are just getting started. You hear about those people who just sign up to twitter and with in a month they have thousands of followers. Generally these people already had a large following on their email list or actually bought the following. For the rest of us, it takes time.

Are you good with people?
As with any business, your success will be reliant on how you are with people. Do you take the time to get to know them or do you hope that they are just interested in getting to know you. Let me help you here.
If you are only interested in people getting to know you your relationships will end very quickly because it is all about you. Having the ability for you to ask questions of your followers and subscribers will become imperative and allow you to specifically market to peoples interests and needs. Smart marketers are always more interested in their prospects than they are in their own thoughts. When you can get the information on what your clients and prospects are looking for you will be able to put together tools and resources that will help them in their marketing pursuits.

Questions really are the answers to your success with Social Networking. Ask the people you are speaking to what it is they are interested in and what it is they are looking for. Get them to trust you and what you are offering.
Become their friend…

Do you have patience?
Some of you reading this are not really going to be interested in this part. As I get older I get to see how important patience really is. The more patient you become the bigger the results. Not everything has to be done immediately. Some of my biggest successes have come after years of waiting. Building Dual Networking has taken 10 years and we are still building.
BE PATIENT…Social Networking takes time. It takes time to build your list of QUALITY FOLLOWERS not just junkies…Don’t rush it. Yes the more time you put into the process the quicker and bigger the results.

Do you have cash to spare?
If you don’t have too much spare cash than you need to be doing Social Networking because it is FREE. Yes you should be buying as many training resources as you can to learn what is needed but all in all your marketing is free. Don’t miss that opportunity.
