Learn The Most Evil Word In The English Language…
I know this was a pretty full on heading, I just don’t feel like pulling any punches today.
Writing an article like this won’t win me any friends, however it may just make me a few enemies.
Let me tell you who will be the ones that won’t like this email!
They will be the ones that are addicted to this word. They allow it to rule their lives. It is their most precious possession. They wear it with pride and use it anytime things get hard and times get tough.
Let me tell you what I believe the most evil word in the English language is…
So what is this word?
Simple, it is the word “try”!
We have all used it. It is the word that allows for mediocre results, results that won’t give you your dreams and allows you to stay in your greatest addiction. (more of that in the video series).
You see the word “try” does not require you to give your best or make you excel to learn.
It says that as long as you do “something” your mediocre results are ok. This my friends is the poor mans road. It is the road to failure and an average life.
I had two different people use this word with me on the weekend and I knew immediately that it was their excuse for average results and living a life of self-pity.
When you are truthful with yourself and you do some true self-analysis, you will find that what I am saying is spot on. You see the reason I know this to be true is because this word used to be my greatest friend and in places a battle still rages within me, but in most areas I don’t feed it anymore and am getting the victory.
I don’t allow complacency (which is this words closest friend) to take root. Fighting this friend, who has now become my enemy, is a daily battle, a battle I will not lose.
So why am I telling you about this evil word and its friend?
Because it is my belief that when you know what it is you are fighting you, have a better chance at winning the battle. I want you to succeed and in my years of experience with in this industry, it is this one evil word that stops most people from achieving their dreams and fulfilling their purpose. It does this because it allows you to believe that not giving your “BEST” is acceptable. Let me tell you it is NOT…
I mean it is if you are OK with life staying the same, but it is not, for those people that know, they are here for a much bigger purpose and truly want to succeed.
So join me. Fight the good fight and don’t allow the word “try” to rule your life. Be a person that does what they say they are going to do and don’t allow not know how to stop you. Answers are always there, you just have to look…
Be a person that when they have something to do and accomplish, do what ever it takes to get the results. It may be you have to stay up all night to learn something new, attend a seminar, listen to some CDs or DVDs or buy a book or do the thing that you are afraid to do. What ever it is you have to do, just do it…
Be the leader you were born to be.

James,
This is an awesome post and so right on. My college football coach used to tell us the same message. From the first day he was in our living room on a recruiting trip, he stressed that he wasn’t interested in a bunch of kids that TRY. He wanted kids that DO.
James
I have not looked at the word TRY in that way before so you have given me something new to work on. When you think about it, the underlying suggestion is that I will fail the first time rahter than succeed and that it ( the word) somehow makes that OK…..which it is not! Thanks and I will ensure I fight the good fight to eradicate it from my vocabulary!
Warren to get a man of your reputation to respond to this and agree is a real honor. Thankyou. Looking forward to seeing you soon. I hope the UK is treating you well
Hi Mate,
A very timely reminder – so easy a trap to fall into – thanks for the memory jogger
James,
Great post, well done!
Like yourself, I find the word TRY to almost be offensive when spoken. As we know, there is enormous power in words, both spoken and written. “Out of the mouth flows the issues of the heart”. Therefore, if someone is using the try word, this tells me just that, they are happy and content just to try. Even though we haven’t yet met, I appreciate you and your leadership
Mate you are on to it as always. Too many of us “try” things all the time and when it doesn’t work right away “Oh well, we had a go…” I think Master Yoda summed it up nicely, “Do… or do not. There is no ‘try’.”
